I’m a writer, as you know. I also have a day job, which you also know. So this book seemed like a good way to spend a bit of time. I checked it out from the library, no surprise there, and I thought it was pretty interesting so I figured I’d talk about it.
Alright, part 2 here we go. In my last blog about 1984, we talked about the double speak/double think that’s reflected in both the recent presidential election. Maybe it isn’t fair to just focus on the current president, because I’m sure politicians from all walks of life have been guilty of falsehoods since politics became a thing, but I digress.
A note before I start: I know this is the first time I’ve posted in a week. I want to thank all of you for being here, and for allowing me to take a few days off for the holiday and to celebrate some special anniversaries. We’re back to our regular schedule!
Earlier this year, I was reading an interesting article about how sales of the book 1984 had skyrocketed since the Trump election. While the article didn’t say why this was the case, I had some ideas, so I decided to read it again myself.
Hello, friends! It’s time for another book review! Hooray! Today we’re talking about The Neuromancer by William Gibson. I just recently read this book in January of this year after having it on my to read list for a solid decade. It might have been longer, actually, because I remember buying my copy at Borders when I was in high school. Let’s all have a moment of silence for the loss of the beloved Borders.
I’m going to make a confession. I am having a really long week and, although I have some blog ideas in the wings, I just can’t commit to sitting down this morning and writing one of them. I do want to get up a blog as I usually do on Friday, so I thought maybe a life update was in order.
I have anxiety. Really bad, crippling, life controlling anxiety.
I’m breaking a few of my own rules here. This book was not on my to read list as discussed in a previous blog. I put a hold on it at the library and it happened to be available so I went ahead and checked it out, which is breaking another rule where I’m not supposed to put things on hold while I’ve got other things to read. Oh well.
I have been going back and forth about whether or not to write this blog. Then, once I decided I would write it, I chickened out about posting it a little bit. Not because I care if I piss people off, but because I don’t want to seem… pretentious? Full of it? I don’t know.
I saw that someone did this tag and I thought “Hey, I want to do that.” So I’m doing it, regardless of whether I’m tagged or not.
